Transitions Generation S - Fast!

Transitions lenses, often called photochromic or adaptive lenses, are special lenses that adjust their tint based on the amount of UV light they are exposed to. When you’re indoors, they remain clear, like regular prescription glasses. However, when you step outside into the sunlight, they darken to protect your eyes from UV rays and glare.

These lenses are ideal for anyone who spends time both indoors and outdoors and doesn’t want the hassle of switching between glasses and sunglasses throughout the day.

The latest generation of Transitions has just been released in NZ, and it's REALLY good.  Known as Generation S (for Speed), the latest iteration of Transitions darkens faster when outdoors, fades back to clear MUCH faster indoors, and comes in a great range of colours.

How Do Transitions Lenses Work?

The magic behind Transitions lenses lies in the photochromic molecules embedded in the lenses. These molecules respond to UV light by changing structure, causing the lenses to darken when exposed to sunlight. When the UV exposure decreases - ie when you walk indoors - the molecules return to their original form, and the lenses become clear again.

The transition happens quickly and smoothly, ensuring that your eyes are always protected and comfortable, regardless of the lighting conditions.

The Benefits of Transitions Lenses

1. Convenience

One of the biggest advantages of Transitions lenses is convenience. You no longer need to juggle between different pairs of glasses. Transitions lenses adapt to any situation, so you can go from bright sunlight to a dimly lit room without having to think about switching eyewear. This is especially beneficial for those who are constantly on the go.

2. UV Protection

New Zealand’s high levels of UV radiation mean that eye protection is particularly important here. Transitions lenses provide full UV protection, safeguarding your eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays. This protection reduces the risk of developing long-term eye issues like cataracts, macular degeneration, and even some forms of skin cancer around the eyes.

3. Reduced Eye Strain

Constantly moving between different lighting environments can cause eye strain, leading to headaches and discomfort. Transitions lenses adjust automatically, reducing the strain caused by bright light and glare. Whether you’re outside in the sunshine or working in front of a computer screen, these lenses keep your eyes comfortable and relaxed.

4. Improved Visual Comfort

Bright sunlight, particularly in environments like snow or water, can cause discomfort and make it difficult to see clearly. Transitions lenses help mitigate glare, improving contrast and enhancing visual clarity in bright outdoor conditions. This makes them particularly useful for outdoor activities like hiking, dining outdoors, or spending time at the beach.

5. Stylish Options

Transitions S lenses are available in a range of colours and styles, allowing you to choose a look that fits your personality. Whether you prefer a classic grey or brown tint or want to experiment with a more fashion-forward option like Ruby or Sapphire, there’s a Transitions lens for you. Plus, they can be added to nearly any frame style, so you don’t have to compromise on your favourite design.

We've been really impressed with the performance of the Transitions Gen S range, and the colour choice is better than ever. We have samples in-store, so come in for a demonstration!
